Distinguished Gentleman's Ride 2018

Distinguished Gentleman's Ride 2018

After a quick coffee at Spoke & Stringer we set off to Gordano Services to join the Bristol 2018 Distinguished Gentleman's Ride.

The weather couldn't have been better! We arrived at Gordano meeted by 300 other riders. We had half an hour to spare to check out all the bikes of which there were countless different styles.

After a quick brief, everyone set off. This year's ride took us out on the road to Portishead, passing through the picturesque countryside, and waving at all those who lined the narrow path to see what was going on!

We were given a free pass over the historic Clifton Suspension Bridge and made our way down Whiteladies Road, Park Street & Baldwin Street - finally ending up at Fowlers of Bristol.

We hope we have helped raise awareness for the Movember Foundation, with £18,832 raised from the Bristol riders and the worldwide total reaching an impressive £4,600,000!

Looking forward to next year already!

What is the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride all about?

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was founded in Sydney, Australia by Mark Hawwa. It was inspired by a photo of Mad Men’s Don Draper astride a classic bike and wearing his finest suit. Mark decided a themed ride would be a great way to combat the often-negative stereotype of men on motorcycles, whilst connecting niche motorcycle communities together.

That first ride in 2012 brought together over 2,500 riders across 64 cities. The success of the event encouraged the founder to consider how it could be used to support a worthy cause.

What went down this year?

In 2018, 115k riders, 648 cities across 101 countries raising funds and awareness of prostate cancer research and men's mental health on behalf of charity partner the Movember Foundation.

This led to over $6M USD being raised for some really important charities!
